Getting started

SHTERA installs nothing. Everything happens in the browser: you create the account, sign in, and you can already reach a server. This chapter covers signup through your first sign-in.

Create the account

Signup asks for three things: your email, a password and your company name. No card, no billing details: the Free plan is active from minute one.

Your company identifier is generated automatically from the first eight letters of the name you entered. If that identifier is taken, a number is appended. From the Inicial plan up you can pick a different one, or use a domain of your own instead.

Verify your email

After signup you get an email with a verification link that expires in 24 hours. Until you open it, the account cannot sign in.

Turn on two-factor

The six-digit code is mandatory, not optional. At the end of signup a QR code appears: scan it with any authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, whichever you use) and confirm with the first code it shows.

Store the secret somewhere safe besides the phone. If you lose the phone and do not have the secret, you will need your recovery code.

Signing in

Sign-in has two steps. First your email and password. Once those check out, the second factor is requested: if you registered quick access on that device, a fingerprint, face or PIN is enough; otherwise, the six-digit code from your app.

If you have quick access but you are on a different computer, a link on that same screen lets you use the app code instead.

One active sign-in per seat

Each user has a single active session. Signing in from another computer closes the previous one. How many concurrent sign-ins your company gets depends on the plan.
