Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: August 19, 2026.
SHTERA provides SSH, RDP, and VNC consoles, plus file transfer, to third-party servers. This policy exists so that access is used legitimately. It’s part of the Terms and Conditions, and breaking it can lead to immediate account suspension.
You represent that you’re authorized
By adding a server to SHTERA, you represent and warrant that you’re authorized to access that server — whether because it’s yours, because your employer or client gave you that access, or under any other legitimate title. This statement underlies everything else in this policy: SHTERA is an access tool, it doesn’t grant or verify authorization over third-party servers.
Prohibited uses
Beyond the statement above, the following uses of SHTERA are expressly prohibited:
- Accessing systems you don’t own without the owner’s authorization.
- Port-scanning or attacking third-party networks.
- Mining cryptocurrency.
- Sending spam or bulk unsolicited email.
- Hosting or distributing illegal material.
- Reselling the service to third parties without SHTERA’s express authorization.
- Using the session-activity logging feature (recording and transcription) to monitor people without the corresponding legal authorization, or outside the scope of your own organization.
Your connections come from our infrastructure
The connections you open through SHTERA come from SHTERA’s VPS IP address, not your own. Abusive use from your account looks, to the destination server and to any outside provider, like it originated from SHTERA’s infrastructure. That’s why this policy is enforced strictly.
About session recording and transcription
Starting on the Básico plan, an account owner can turn on activity logging within a session, for their own team and their own infrastructure. The feature ships off by default, the audit log records who turned it on and when, and anyone connecting sees a notice that the session is being recorded.
Using this feature to monitor people without the corresponding legal authorization, or outside the scope of the account owner’s own organization, is a prohibited use (see above) and grounds for suspension.
Auditing
Every session opened through SHTERA is logged: who connected, when, to which server, and from what IP address. This log runs on every plan, including Free, and cannot be turned off.
Account suspension
SHTERA may suspend an account immediately and without prior notice when it detects ongoing abuse, a risk to the infrastructure or to third parties, or non-payment. The suspension mechanism is already built and in use.
Suspending an account does not delete your data: the vault, the servers you added, and any recordings remain intact, and come back exactly as they were as soon as the account is reactivated.
How to report abuse
If you notice misuse of SHTERA — your own or someone else’s — write to us at support@shtera.com, with details of what happened and any evidence you have.
Consequences of a violation
Violating this policy can lead to suspension or permanent termination of the account, without prejudice to any other legal action that may apply.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we’ll email you before the change takes effect.
